WHAT LEADERSHIP LOOKS LIKE IN PRACTICE
Set the direction. Make the work better. Help people grow.
Give people something worth aiming for.
Strong teams need more than assignments. I help define the audience, the idea, the voice, and what excellent looks like—then give people enough ownership to make the work their own.
Make the work better.
I’m a direct, thoughtful editor. I ask questions, challenge assumptions, sharpen ideas, and give specific feedback people can actually use. The goal isn’t to make the work sound like me. It’s to help people produce their strongest work.
Build independence, not dependence.
The best outcome of mentoring is that someone eventually needs you less. I’ve helped writers and content strategists strengthen their judgment, take on bigger responsibilities, and grow into more confident, independent practitioners.
LEADING WITHOUT THE ORG CHART
Some of my most important teams have never reported to me.
I’ve led work across Product, UX, Engineering, Clinical, Marketing, Compliance, and Operations—building alignment among people with different priorities, vocabularies, and definitions of success. Influence, clarity, trust, and good judgment are often more useful than authority.
THE PLAYER-COACH
I still edit the sentence.
Leadership hasn’t made me less interested in the work itself. I still love the idea, the opening line, the unexpected phrase, the structural problem, and the edit that suddenly makes everything click. Staying close to craft makes me a better leader of creative people.
The strongest leadership makes the work and the people doing it stronger.
